1. If you are dry-linking, (ie - you record dry into your system and that audio file is then uploaded to the system as 'the show') it can be very difficlut to get in the proper zone. You're in a room, on your own wth no armosphere...how do you create the right 'feel'. One easy way - Make a Spotify playlist of your hour and listen to it before you record. Hearing the music will help develop a 'feel' for being live.
2. If you record into your station's system and can hear the intros and outros before recording, then actually DO that. Listen to what to what your listener will hear.
3. You record on a Monday, your show airs on the Wednesday. In between...things can change. In this case, you need to be more generic in detail. That great Motown singer you just back announced could have passed away in the 48 hours. That's not going to sound great, is it? As a rule, speak in past-tense. You're safe with the past...it's not going to change and surprise you.
4. Your VT audience is just as important as your live audience. Give them the same detail and attention. A listener is a listener.
5. Give yourself plenty of time to record. Don't wait until the last minute. Rehearse before recording - in a live show, you need to get it right first time. Re-recording over and over in order to 'get it right' actually makes your link sound tired and scripted.
Our VT Course Starts January.
