Swap Stations.

The best-kept secret in Irish radio was revealed this morning when both Radio Nova and Classic Hits (I still call it 4FM...old habits!!) announced new morning shows. Sort of!

It's something that doesn't happen very often as both stations...swap!!

PJ and Jim, who have been on mornings together for the best part of a decade will take over mornings on sister station Nova from April 1st while current Nova duo, Colm & Lucy, go in the opposite way.

The changes have come about since a new consultancy team were brought in after the management shakeup.

So...is this a good idea?

In my opinion - Yes.

PJ and Jim have proven to be really popular nationally and especially in Dublin. This move means they can concentrate on the city and outlying areas. It's also a smart move by the parent company because the two guys consistently top listener surveys as favourite morning show...now Nova have them they will be able to build something strong and long-lasting.

As for Colm & Lucy, I can't help but think the more family-friendly vibe of Classic Hits will allow them to concentrate on their strength - the partnership, family and the lives of the 40-something listener.

It's a move I've never seen in the market before and one that will most likely benefit at least one of the stations. We may see a few more changes around the market prior to Bauer arriving.
