We asked a presenter a question yesterday.
This presenter is relatively new to the business, having just left college.
The question: "Have you had any training?"
The answer: "Oh yes lots. I know Myriad, RCS, Adobe Audition, I can run any desk, understand HotKeys..."
Right.
'Presenter Training?
(*Tumbleweed*)
We have to wonder why are new presenters allowed out into the wild without proper training?
The basic stuff - Link construction, Word Economy, Hooking & Teasing...even those three would get you going on the road with a bit more ammunition.
OK, I know there are schools and colleges who do a wonderful job on this but it seems the majority cover radio journalism, interview techniques and editing over actual presentation.
One presenter told us the only direction he ever received was to "not speak for too long between songs"!
Another said they covered some Presentation on the final day of a three-month Presenter' course!
You will never climb the ladder with that sort of guidance...it leads to bad habits that are almost impossible to shake off.
Why is there such a lack of actual 'Presenter' training?
Is it because it's "just talking" and "anyone can do that"?
