News broke today that Bauer in the UK has agreed to buy Ireland's largest radio group, Communicorp.
Funnily enough, Tracey called this two years ago when she said that one company could own and run the lot!
As you can imagine, my messages have been pinging all morning! Talk about hot news!!
This has the potential to be a game-changer. Bauer runs some of the UK's top brands from Magic to Absolute and from DownTown Radio to Hits Network. These are all hugely successful and the reason for this...? Bauer has incredibly high standards.
What will they do with the Irish acquisition?
Will we find Hits Network on 98.1 in Dublin? How about KISS on 103.8 in Dublin?
Will Today FM be in for an overhaul?
What about key management positions? Will programming be led from London, with Irish offices further down the line?
Any changes that come will probably arrive slowly but be sure of one thing...they WILL put their stamp on the market.
We have both worked with the company over time...Tracey on Today FM for five years and I spent eight years on air with 98FM. We know these stations well.
This could be a kick that radio in Ireland needs.
