I remember sitting in a taxi cab leaving RTE in Dublin in the late 80s.
"Are yeh workin' in there?" the driver asked.
"I am".
"D'you ever meet Gay Byrne?"
"I've seen him around".
"D'you know who's the best though? That Larry King".
Well, 'that' Larry King left us over the weekend and I agreed with the taxi driver. Watching 'Larry King Live' on CNN as a young man was an education. Everything from the iconic braces, pointed questions and genuine laugh...he was a revelation.
The fact that he then regularly showed up on the 'Late Late Show' with my TV hero Craig Ferguson only added to the appeal.
