What do you do if you find yourself on the wrong end of a firing?
Well, thankfully, yours truly earned his 'Radio Badge' a few years ago and I know all about the feeling of being 'terminated'. I like that word...makes us sound very Sci-Fi!
I've written about the "can we have a word" meeting before and one thing always pops up (after grieving and understanding what happened). That one thing this is 'Network'.
Get onto your network...or as we call it - your PEER List (People Engaged Everyday in Radio).
Your network is most likely how you landed your current gig and, believe me, it will definitely be how you snare the next one. Growing your network NOW is the best thing you can do for your future career. Don't wait until you have to.
If Frank made his living behind the mic, we would say to him "Frank...who do you know? Get in touch with them now. Tell them you're available. Be honest and straight forward. No excuses.".
Pretty much everyone gets 'let go'...there's no shame in it. It's just part of the game. Dust yourself off, get over it and move on....but have that network primed already.
