2020 Phrases We Won't Miss (when they eventually go!)

"New Normal" - There's nothing normal about it...really...there isn't. Doesn't matter how often you repeat it. Nothing. I never thought we could miss "Same as " and yet...here we are!

"Zoom" - We started using Zoom a few years ago for coaching and it worked fine...except it cut off after 40 minutes (unless you paid). We pay for enough as it is, so decided to stop with Zoom. Back then, people were saying "What's Zoom?" Now, it's part of the 'New Normal'. We will gladly say Goodbye to Zoom though..."Can you hear me?" "Turn your mic on Kevin", "Is everyone here...?" We'll take the boring boardroom meeting any day in 2021.

"Virtual" - When I was a nipper, 'Virtual' signified the future...when everything was going to be shiny and silver and computerised. People would wear shiny jumpsuits and helmets (for some reason). Now, virtual means stuck in a room with a device logged onto another device and pretending it's real. It's not real...it's all pretend. 'Virtual Happy Hour' is a most un-happy experience...and 'Quarantine and Chill' fails to register any level of appeal.

"Covidiot" - someone who does something that you deem dangerous to others during Covid times. Pretty much anything can become a reason to label you a Covidiot...buying three litres of milk instead of two, wearing your mask the wrong way for five seconds or having a coffee in a cafe. Once labelled a Covidiot, you are now open to ridicule and torment from those who are obviously better than you. They then become 'Covexperts'! (*See also 'Social Shaming').

'Bubble' - We used to call this - 'People you know and meet'. We now meet in bubbles. The only problem with this is that bubbles burst. While 'bubble' may be jarring, it's got nothing on 'Quaranteam'. Don't get me started! It would almost make you feel sorry for the younger generations...or as we now call them, the 'Quaranteens'.

Then there's 'Lockdown', 'Super-Spreader', 'PPE', 'WHO', 'Contactless', 'Cluster'...

Guess what?

On the radio - YOU can bypass all of these and make your listener feel 'normal'. Not 'new normal'...just normal.

Isn't that great?
