A few years ago, I travelled to London for one specific purpose - to interview Iain Lee.
At that stage, he was on air with talkRADIO hosting 'The Late Night Alternative' alongside Katherine Boyle.
I remember him saying "You've travelled just for this??" and I guess (in his eyes) I probably seemed like a bit of an anroak! In a way I was...because radio was going through a creative slump back then insofar as consolidation had happened, people were losing jobs and fear was very much the dominant emotion among presenters.
'Fear' seemed to be the furthest thing from Iain's show. If anything, it was bold and mischievous and challenging and I wanted to find out 'how' he did it.
Fast Forward and we witnessed awards and a place on TV's "I'm A Celebrity" followed by becoming a daily fixture on ITV's "Good Morning Britain".
Then...bloody radio got in the way (as it has a habit of doing) and decided to mess it up for a while by ending the talkRADIO show!
In the intervening 17 months, Iain has done what most presenters do (myself included) when faced with that uncertainty. Start treading water and hope we don't drown.
Which is why we are so happy to hear him back at his best...behind a mic (and not on camera) hosting a late night call-in show on RadioAnywhere.
Yes, it's internet radio.
Yes, the audience is small (right now).
But...he's doing it. He's never given up.
Starting is the point...you build from there.
Tracey said it while we listened yesterday - "He's going to be head hunted again".
Don't bet against it.
