One from a newbie, one from a working midday person, and another from a well-known national veteran.
The dreaded 'Pointy Finger'.
You know the one - formerly the preferred pose of 80s and 90s DJs for their station publicity shots and 'DJ Cards' (if you don't know what a DJ Card is...ask your grandad!!!).
Like all bad habits on air, this one has been handed down through the years and adopted by new radio presenters as a perfectly reasonable way to present yourself to your audience.
Newsflash: It's not!!!
It's a crutch. It's cheesy and old-fashioned. Even in the 80s and 90s, it was considered cheesy and old-fashioned.
Don't do it.
This is the Instagram era...people are posting creative images every day and we think 'pointy finger DJ' is cool?
Think, think, think. What can you do with your image that will help you look relevant and make someone want to know more about you?
Grinning into a camera, pointing at me with a great big cheesy expression on your face isn't it!
"Heeeeeeey....how ya doin'???"
