Nails - On a scale of 1-10, how do you think passion for your onair job should rank?
Tracey - 10.
Nails - Why?
Tracey - Passion will bring longevity to your career. It will help you be your true self.
Nails - You'll get 'found out' without it?
Tracey - Yes...by yourself. You can't fake 'you' to yourself. It's why a lot of People leave radio after a few years. it wasn't right for them in the first place.
Nails - Can't talent alone get you to where you want to go?
Tracey - Talent and lots of consistent learning and practice. Study your craft every day. You've got to get under the bonnet of radio...and understand WHY you do this. Right now we're hearing radio stations shoehorn people in the spotlight onto radio shows when that was not their initial passion.
Nails - Is it bad that these people are on air?
Tracey - Not if the passion for radio is there...but again, it's the longevity thing. Radio is a completely different ball game to any other type of media...it takes staying power. That's where the passion will help you through the tough times as opposed to giving up.
Nails - What if you have all of the passion but just aren't getting the break?
Tracey - That's your test!! Seriously, if you have the passion...the real, true passion for radio...you will never give up. There ARE jobs out there. These days you need to showcase yourself before even applying. You need to stand out from the crowd to get noticed. Not by being a social media influencer but by being a pro and knowing the skills of radio and keeping fresh all the time.
