"I can't talk about it!"

During a coaching session yesterday, we worked with the presenter on basic link construction and what to actually talk about during your links.

One of these links related to the England V Italy Euro 2020 final from last Sunday: "I'm not a football fan, so I wouldn't talk about that".

Hold on...just because you don't like something, doesn't mean you can't talk about it. Especially if it's a big event like this and your listener will be aware of it. 

Hey, THEY might not like football either...you already have something in common!

Use what's out there and be real with your angle and you are suddenly relating to your listener as a real person. Radio in 2021 is about 'connecting', more than ever before.

Don't like football? Talk about that.  

* Ask listeners to convince you why football is great.

* Talk about the 19-year-old player who missed the decisive penalty for England and what we can learn from his treatment by the public.

* Talk about Italy and how it's a lovely place to visit.

ANYthing to tie you with your listener via a current event.

NOT liking something is just as good a reason to talk about it as actually LIKING it!
