I remember being told that a LOT...when I was younger!
Starting out as a fresh-faced, enthusiastic, know-nothing 15-year-old...I had zero clue if I could make it in the radio industry. I didn't even know what the 'industry' WAS!!
"A young person's game".
Is it?
Well, isn't everything? When you start out after finishing school or college...you show up untainted by the negatives, focussed on the positives and ready to change all that came before you. You have a fire inside, an ambition to quench and a vision to achieve.
You get about ten good years for that!
Seriously! By the time you are 29...the people who were 10 when you started out are now the ones chomping at the bit. YOU become the target for change.
So, TWO THINGS:
* If you are starting out and have a goal/ambition/vision....go for it NOW! Time is not infinite and your own time to achieve is on the clock. Those 10-year-olds are getting older, faster and they'll catch up sooner.
* If you are coming to radio 'later' in life...you still have time. You also have one major advantage - experience. You know what to avoid because you've already run into and then around those obstacles. You're not competing with 20-something's. You're competing with yourself.
If radio is your calling...no matter your age...DO IT NOW!!
Seriously. NOW!!!!!!!
