Look Stephen Mulhearn up online and you see him described as 'Television presenter'.
So, why has he been penciled in on a national radio show this Summer?
We both know the answer - he's immediately recognisable and creates listener reaction. That's even before he opens the mic (or has it opened for him?)
From Britain's Got Talent to Catchphrase and more, Mulhearn is a well-known face to the British public and will be heard filling in for Graham Norton on Virgin Radio for four weeks.
Look, it's just four weeks - no one has lost their job here, but it IS a familiar storyline: well-known celebrity snags on-air gig (although he has presented before - on Heart).
There may be the usual cries of "They're taking our jobs" but, to be honest, they fall on deaf ears. This is show business...and this is how show business works. People get hired and others don't. It's not a personal slight on professional radio people...it's just an opportunity to create some talk about a radio station.
There are plenty of jobs in radio (our people get hired all the time). Get one and work your way up instead of talking yourself down.
You can complain about it or be so good that they have no choice but to hire you.

He’s done radio before. Well….he was on Heart…close enough
