LIVE YOUR LISTENER'S LIFE NOW!

 LIVE YOUR LISTENER'S LIFE NOW!

(By: Tracey Lee - onaircoach.net)

After researching /monitoring /listening to radio over the last few months around the globe PLUS hearing the talented entries we have received for our annual International Radio Talent Search; Radio Star, really makes me certain…

You've Got To LIVE Your LISTENER'S LIFE.

What is your LISTENER doing RIGHT NOW?

What are they LISTENING TO on SPOTIFY?  Trending MUSIC/ PODCASTS?

WATCHING on TIKTOK, YOUTUBE, NETFLIX?

What's TRENDING on TIKTOK, INSTAGRAM, TWITTER

Who's HOT? What EVENTS are they going to? What's TRENDING in SPORTS?

Latest Trending CHALLENGES/ DARES….

Radio is more Visual now

I'm seeing some great examples with Radio Presenters creating videos for their socials that are in sync with their radio show; earning them more followers & listeners.

Over the last few weeks of coaching radio presenters, the number one complaint of theirs about radio now is that there is "NOT ENOUGH FUN"

Yesterday it was Irish Radio |TV Presenter Gerry Ryan's 11th Anniversary. RIP G Ryan.

Now, there was a man who knew how to have fun on the radio. He was a ball of mischief but could be empathic too. Gerry could have you laughing one minute and crying the next! He was some man for one man!  If you've never had the pleasure of hearing Gerry, here's a video I put together to give you a taste. (Gerry Ryan Video Tribute)

Then look at Howard Stern, still the KING and topping all the listening charts for DECADES! Why is he STILL number 1 after all these years?

Then I realised something: both Gerry and Howard had the 'gift' of the gab and they CONNECTED with the listener.

Really just being themselves, enjoying being on the radio, having fun, being mischievous and having the CONFIDENCE to deliver it! Being creative, using their imagination and sure of who they are in life and on air. They've also come close to the dangerous edge on air with content many times :) They took chances!

Wait a second….

That sounds a lot like TIKTOK and YOUTUBE…Oozing with talent, fun and mischief, intelligence…

One example of a Radio Presenter already doing this is on Northern Ireland's QRadio - Declan Wilson on Mornings! He undertakes a daily challenge LIVE ON AIR and on QRADIO TV, as voted in by a listener. It's called Decky's Dare.

He's tried out the labor simulator machine, he has dressed up as Barbie on the street, he performs parodies with his guitar (Ted Sheeran ÁC-12 Team) and even last week got his chest waxed. He loves it (well most of the time lol) and has the listeners engaged and laughing. His videos are also going viral! It's win-win all round… more listeners, more viewers and vice versa, but it's got to be consistent - That's the key.

I love hearing the listener being more interactive on radio - The use of What's App; playing listeners messages on air, hearing their opinions.

Adrian & Jeremy really did this well on their chat show with some hilarious messages! Brilliant!

Let your LISTENER be the star sometimes!

Here's a brilliant example of TIKTOK+RADIO collaborating - using MUSIC, RADIO & SOCIAL MEDIA.

TikTok takes to the airwaves with the launch of Australian-exclusive digital radio station, 'TikTok Trending on iHeartRadio"

"TikTok is making its mark on the music industry - with artists today turning to the platform to launch new music, resurface classic tracks and connect with fans across the globe. Emerging acts, still in the 'bedroom' stage, love TikTok because they're able to reach new audiences, build a following and achieve success on their own terms, off the back of raw talent, creativity and charisma. Established artists have also been tapping into TikTok, particularly at a time when shows and live music are off the cards in most parts of the world. And they're connecting with a global community that has the power to turn top tracks into worldwide hits." Read more...

"It's like ZOOM + RADIO combined"

With the likes of platforms such as Clubhouse, Facebook's Hotline, and Twitter Spaces emerging, radio needs to catch up. There is a HUGE amount of Radio Talent out there as I've heard on radio and listening to Radio Star Entries all over the world.

The Power Of Radio. Your job is to fill the silence in between the music. You can help lift your listener's mood, change their day!

Be real, let them trust you, connect with them.

Ditch the old fashioned jock lingo, throw away the crutches and cliches

Let's hear FUN back on the radio in 2021!

God knows we all need it now!
