No...this isn't a rant about the evils of VTing.
Voice Tracking is a 'thing'...we get it. It's an important and very active part of the presenter's work life. VT's can save your station money and (in the long run) you need them to save cash so that they can actually pay YOU!
One thing we noticed about a recent VT was the fact that it sounded too clean!
It's fantastic to have the ability to sound tight and to hit your marks and vocals etc. BUT...it's possible to over-do the entire process.
Case in point: A CHR station...really upbeat, energetic jock on air...well prepped and lovely tone.
The Problem? He edited his breaths out.
That's fair enough if you are producing a commercial. For a radio show though? Where you are communicating and relating to a live listener? You need to breathe!
It's possible to sound too slick, too tight and too perfect.
Your listener isn't perfect. Sound like your listener :)
