Cold End.

Chatting with Tracey this morning and she was reminded of her ex-PD at South East Radio in Ireland. He had two bugbears.

1. Never cut a 'classic' song...Bohemian Rhapsody comes to mind immediately.

2. Never talk over a Cold ending.

The reason this came up is because we heard 'Number 2 'in a spectacular fashion today. Lady GaGa 'Bad Romance' was playing away...you know the ending? Mizz GaGa sings and sings right up to the end. It's a very definite moment. The song ends abruptly.

About ten seconds before the 'cold' ending...on comes the jock, wishing us a "Very good morning" telling us that it's Monday and that it's a cold one "out there".

Bit of a car crash to be honest.

Why does this not work? Well...who are you serving? Your listener! What if your listener loves that song and sings along to the end. You've just destroyed it.

Let the song end and (as we said last week), if you have nothing to say between it and the next song...say nothing!!

Over and Out (Cold 'out')!
