Surprise Your PD.

There are two types of on air people.

* The ones who do as they're told.

* The ones that don't always do as they're told.

Believe it or not...PDs like the second type.

Look at it through a PDs' eyes. Your Programme Director/Content Controller is a radio person. A man or woman who became part of the industry because they love radio. They love radio people. Just because they suddenly have an office and attend budget meetings...doesn't mean that love for radio has disappeared.

Your boss has a boss that they have to answer to. That's business.

And there's you. OnAir, trying to work the format, please the listener and also perform something original. 

When you break format or air a piece that's outside the norm and unexpected, your PD takes notice. You might get a raised eyebrow or a gentle reminder of the station guidelines...BUT....remember, your PD is a radio person too and will appreciate good radio.

As one Canadian programmer told us, he loves when his presenters "surprise me". Of course he does!!! He loves exciting radio!!! 

So, surprise your PD. Let them explain what happened to their boss, if they have to :)
