This might sound odd but roll with me on this one.
When you think, are you being passive or active?
In other words, do your thoughts take you somewhere or hold you in the same spot?
Overthinking is passive - it halts your ability to make decisions.
The whole purpose of thinking is to help us in decision making - what to wear, what to say, what to eat...all decisions based on thinking.
Overthinking what to make for dinner will stop you from making dinner - result...you’re hungry!
If you UNDER think it though, you will eat. Pretty quickly too!
On the radio, you are faced with decisions every day. What to say, what tone to use in a link, how to edit a call...there’s always something to think about.
You know that you get more done in studio when you go with your gut instinct, trust your skills and do what you have trained yourself to do.
When you wonder how your performance will be rated by the listener or PD or even other presenters (!), then you may overthink it and that stops you from creating...because it holds you in a place of fear.
‘UnderThink’ sometimes.
Go with your gut.
Roll with it.
In your career and in life!
