As you may or may not know, Tracey Lee and I coach Radio Presenters. We've been at it since 2007. In that time, we have learned what works and what doesn't, what we're best at, and how to help people become the best they can be. Always evolving.
We realise there are other options available and that we're not the only show in town. No problem there.
Can I ask you a favour though?
No matter who you work with as you progress through your radio career, will you make sure they are treating you properly and giving you the best that they can?
We hit a tipping point yesterday when we received a demo from a chap looking for some feedback. To say the demo was amateur is an under-statement. Levels were terrible (hard to hear him over the music), the editing was horrific and the presentation wooden.
"Did you make it yourself"?
"No. I did a two-month course with (agency) and that's the demo they made for me".
This annoys us so much! Please...if you are seeking guidance...research the people offering it. Make sure they have done in their career what you want to do in yours. Find others they have worked with and ask for their input.
I'm not saying you need to hire us...I'm saying hire the RIGHT people for you and insist on them treating you well. Otherwise, it's money down the drain.
The person who contacted us yesterday spent 1500 euro over the space of a year with this company and had an amateur demo and no career guidance to go with it. They were also promised a radio show at the end of it and that never materialised. Money wasted.
There we go...end of rant!!!
