What can radio learn from the European Super League?
A few things.
First of all, both industries (football and radio) are staffed by people who are passionate about what they do. People who get up every day to be the best they can be and who compete with peers in a healthy and robust way.
Also, both industries are run to make money. Sometimes that urge for profit can override the passion and blindside the real reason for existing - The Audience.
In football's case: The Supporters.
In radio's case: The Listeners.
A breakaway European Super League involving only the elite teams from England, Italy and Spain has been condemned across the continent as a 'money grab'.
Here's what current Liverpool FC manager, Jurgen Klopp, said about it:
"Was I told about this announcement? No. This is about one thing., Greed. As far as I am concerned, the supporters are my employer. I work every day for them".
What can radio learn from this league?
We are nothing without our listeners.
They come first. Always have and always will.
