There's a real battle going on in national radio in the UK these days. It's a great time to be a listener, that's for sure.
Graham Norton going to Virgin, Nation Radio adding to their roster of well-known names and the big boys and girls and Heart, Capital and the like all solidifying their schedules.
Today, Greatest Hits Radio announced former BBC Radio presenter, Simon Mayo as the voice of Drivetime across the country. GHR has been really active over the months, adding to the line-up, with the likes of Pat Sharp, Janice Long and Jenny Powell joining.
Mayo will leave his daily show on Scala but still run weekends there...I'm guessing at least one of those shows will be VT'd...but am happy to be proven wrong. I just can't see someone of Mayo's experience wanting to fill seven days live.
Local Drive presenters on the GHR network will suffer because of this.
What do you think? Good move for radio or just another nail in the coffin for local presenters?
Will the super-local stations be able to make something of this for themselves? Can they bang that 'local' drum even harder now?
As I say, it's a very interesting time in UK radio.

We can’t receive Scala here in Ireland but would like to. Don’t see why not.
